We sent 4 Opti sailors and 8 420 sailors to Marblehead Junior Race Week – there was a mix of rain and heavy-light air, which made for less than ideal sailing conditions. Please click HERE for Marblehead Results. Another group of 4 headed to Falmouth for the weekend for the 2009 Falmouth Regatta – and after a quick switch in a parking lot on the south shore, another 8 will be headed to 420 Nationals in Jamestown, RI until Wednesday. Everyone is sailing hard and improving their skills – and we have already sailed in more regattas than ever before.
The Adventurers took a field trip to the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center where they explored the wonders of the ocean and earlier in the week, they enjoyed a wild game of Capture the Flag on the beach. Asher would want me to make note of the results: Noah’s team: 3, Alex’s team: 1. I couldn’t have done it without all your help, guys!
The Adventurers
Opti 2’s learned some racing basics and enjoyed competitive tennis while also dominating the competition in the ping pong games on the rainy days (seriously, we’ve had enough rain!).
Opti 1’s had some eventful drifting in the abnormally high tides and the accompanying current. They did, however, get a couple of opportunities to sail out in the bay and take advantage of the quieter waters. Much improvement has been seen across the group regardless of the screaming you hear echoing around the river (although hard to tell, they are screams of joy, not to worry!).
U8’s continue to struggle with the weather, both on the courts and in the pools, but spirits are high and everyone is looking forward to more sun this week! Keep up the great work and the early morning weather’s going to have to get better at some point!
Great view from the U8 pool!
